What is a Personal Injury Claim?
Personal injury law is an area of law that deals with serious injuries caused by the negligence of others. North Carolina civil law allows an individual who has been harmed by another’s carelessness, misconduct or disregard for safety, to seek financial compensation for medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, and other damages. The law allows accident victims to seek damages to be made whole.
Personal injury claims encompass a wide variety of accidents including traffic accidents, workplace injuries, slip-and-fall accidents, dog bites, defective products, unsafe medications, medical malpractice, assault and battery, and wrongful death. Injuries can include everything from sprained wrists to broken and fractured bones, puncture wounds from animal bites, head and brain trauma, and a damaged spinal cord leading to paralysis.
Why Should I Hire a Personal Injury Attorney?
If you have been injured due to someone else’s negligence, your focus should be on your recovery and your family’s well-being. That’s why it is crucial to hire an experienced Wake Forest injury attorney to assist you.
An injury lawyer at Hardison & Cochran will have the knowledge, skill, and resources to make sure that your claim is handled correctly. Our legal team will take on the responsibility of identifying those liable for your injury, gathering evidence to support your claim, negotiating with the insurance adjuster and filing a lawsuit if necessary.
If you try to handle your injury claim on your own, the insurance company representing the at-fault party will try to take advantage of you, particularly if you are hurt and struggling financially in the wake of the accident. The insurer will try to deny or diminish your injury claim to save the company money.
Having a strong and experienced Wake Forest injury lawyer on your side can make all the difference. You’ll want to hire a lawyer with specific experience handling injury claims. It’s also helpful to hire a lawyer with a track record of successful verdicts and settlements and the resources to see your case all the way through to a resolution.

The length of time for a personal injury case to be resolved can vary widely, from months to years. You should contact an attorney as soon as possible to review the details of a serious injury and discuss whether you have a valid injury claim. The statute of limitations in North Carolina for personal injury claims is three years from the date of the injury.
The discovery process after a lawsuit is filed may take six months to a year or longer, but a settlement may be reached at this stage. If the case goes to trial, the verdict may take another year or two. The length of time depends on the complexity of the case, the severity of injuries, the amount of the damages, and the current caseload of the court.
