This morning, reports WNCN, a bus crashed on U.S. 64 near Tarboro leaving 26 passengers with injuries, two serious. Reportedly, the bus was rear-ended by a large tractor-trailer, causing the bus to overturn. The truck driver was charged for failing to reduce speed, as well as the bus driver, who failed to have a Class B driver’s license. The eastbound lanes should reopen around noon today, according to the article.
Auto accidents are dangerous on their own, but add in a large tractor-trailer, and the danger increases dramatically. Almost 1,700 people were killed in North Carolina truck accidents from 2003-2013. With the increase of trucks on the highway these days, these accidents are unfortunately more likely to occur.
