Today marks the beginning of hurricane season (June 1st to November 30th), a season we are very familiar with here in North Carolina. Although this Atlantic season has been predicted to be a fairly light one, a tropical storm named Ana has already been spotted near Myrtle Beach, SC. There are many methods of preparation for this time of year, and many websites that will both give info about these methods and track hurricane activity throughout the season.
We at Hardison & Cochran would like to provide you with a few quick safety tips and the name of a website dedicated to preparing people for hurricane season. This website shows a very detailed list of what to do for pre-season prep, for when a warning has been issued, and then what to do before, during, and after the hurricane. To be prepared at home for a storm, make sure you have a flashlight, batteries, a first aid kit, a radio and materials for boarding windows. It is a good idea to choose one room in your home that you and your family will use for shelter. Remember, the fewer windows in this room, the better. Remain indoors and avoid cell phone use during the storm. As always, keep up with local news and weather reports to stay on top of this season’s hurricane activity. We hope this information will encourage you to prepare for the 2015 hurricane season! Stay dry!
