Hardison & Cochran Attorneys at Law is a socially responsible law firm and is active in its support of the Autism Society of North Carolina.
In recent years, the law firm has had a partnership with the Autism Society in NC and University of North Carolina Athletics to increase autism awareness across North Carolina.
Autism is a developmental disability that affects thousands of families in North Carolina. The Autism Society of North Carolina estimates that more than 65,000 North Carolinians cope with the Autism Spectrum Disorder, which describes a group of developmental disabilities affecting a person’s capacity to grasp what they see, hear and sense.
When Hardison & Cochran decided in 2014 to become a sponsor of Carolina Athletics, the attorneys wanted the sponsorship to promote more than just their legal services. Hardison & Cochran collaborated with the Autism Society of N.C. and invited the non-profit organization to use the law firm’s in-game advertising spots during football games to promote the Autism Society of N.C. and the programs and services it offers.
“Partnering with Hardison & Cochran has been wonderful,” Tracey Sheriff said, CEO of the Autism Society of North Carolina. “Just as they do with their clients, they understand we are here to help people. They realized a unique way that they could help spread awareness and understanding and connect individuals with autism and families affected by autism to the life-improving services we provide. We put 89 cents of every dollar raised toward our mission. That’s important when the needs and numbers in our community are increasing each year. Having a partner and supporter like Hardison & Cochran helps ensure that people who need us get help when they need it.”
Team Autism NC was established after Hardison & Cochran decided to start sponsoring Carolina Athletics. The awareness campaign requests that North Carolinians join Team Autism NC to get more information about the Autism Society of NC.
During 2018, Team Autism NC had approximately 1,000 members who received weekly updates from the Autism Society with promotions for weekly give-a-ways during college football season.
For the past four football seasons, Carolina Football has included a designated Autism Awareness Game. The 2018 game featured the North Carolina Tar Heels hosting the University of Central Florida Golden Knights.
On game day, the Autism Society of North Carolina had a tent in Tar Heel Town near Kenan Stadium and staff and volunteers answered questions and shared information about autism services with fans attending the football game.
